Rewarding Community-Engaged Scholarship
Community-engaged scholarship (CES) is gaining momentum in Canadian higher education, yet university reward systems have not kept pace. Much work needs to be done within university cultures to institutionalize and sustain community engagement as a core value and practice. Developing a cadre of faculty members whose focus is CES - and universities that recognize and reward them - are central to addressing this issue.
The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences at the University of Guelph and Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) are spearheading a national initiative that aims to change university policies and practices to better develop and reward community-engaged scholarship. The "call for university partners," closed on July 12, 2010. Applicants will be notified of a decision by September 1, 2010 and developmental activities will begin shortly thereafter.
